In this article written by Bob Woods (2008) he discusses an interpretative rates of suicide along with precipitating factors and methods aging individuals use in their death of suicide. Woods also discusses the correlation between attempts and deaths by suicide as well as what can be done to prevent suicides among our aging population. When discussing the suicide rates among aging population, he demonstrates the rate of suicides per 100,000 people between groupings of males and females in the age categories of 65-74 and 75+ and the rates in which they exist in different countries. Including; Ireland, UK, USA, Japan, France, Hungary, and a global perspective. Although historically older men have been the highest rate of suicide among the countries above, in recent years the highest rates is now among younger men.
