I do believe that Romeo is killed because he is too romantic. It is his own depression from being separated from Juliet that causes him to commit suicide. He kills Tybalt in a street fight which results in him being exiled from Verona, where Juliet lived. This must have pushed him even further to suicide than he ever had been before, and it is because of him being such a romantic that he couldn’t just live without Juliet and find another girl to fall in love with. He would rather be dead than be without the woman he loves, which is the best definition there is to being in love. Although, we already know that Romeo is already just a sad person before he even meets Juliet, there is no way this would push him to suicide. He was sad about Rosaline, and to lift Romeo’s spirits, Benvolio convinced him to go to a Capulet party. “I’ll go along, no such sight to be shown, but rejoice in splendor of mine own.” (1.3.107-108) Romeo’s sadness from Rosaline not loving him back is shown here. Although he didn’t end his life at this point in the story, this scene helps the reader to understand how emotional his character can be.
