Mehmed II, also known as el-Faith (“the Conqueror”) was the sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 1451-1481 AD. Since Sultan Mehmed II was a young child, he was always intrigued by the military life. He is best known for ruthlessly capturing of Constantinople and turning it into the new capital of the Ottoman Empire, while in the process of destroying what was remained of the Byzantine Empire. His drive and motivation lead to his success, which was based because he possessed strong leadership traits such as knowledge, decisiveness, and endurance.
Knowledge is power. Mehmed II was one of the most famous sultans that ruled the Ottoman Empire because of his intelligence. Mehmed II was able to educate himself to learn new things he was not aware often. He was educated by a famous scholar Aksemseddin and according to Ottoman historians, Mehmed II knew seven different languages (theottoman.org). Since Mehmed II was a young child he factuated with the military concept. At age twelve, Mehmed was sent Amasya along with tutors to govern and gain experience per traditions of Ottoman rulers before his time (Mehmed the Conqueror). Mehmed II “the Conqueror” was not content with capturing the city of Constantinople from the Byzantines in 1453. He wanted to complete his mission by establishing rule of Islam over all the lands once held by the Roman Empire, especially Italy (PBS.org). Regardless of any adversities that Mehmed II had ti withstand, he was able to push through and get what he wanted. Sultan Mehmed II ruled the Ottoman Empire for 30 years and joined a total of 25 campaigns himself. He was the type of leader that was not only one that gave orders but he was also the one in the dirt with his soldiers as well. He devoted himself to the Ottoman
