The early Islamic empire expanded using three methods. These methods included military conquest, political means, and financial incentives. First, the Islamic empire expanded through military force. According to the document A: battle of Yarmuck, the battle was fierce and bloody. 24,000 Muslims took part and 70,000 Greeks were put to death.
I will be writing about how the Early Islamic Empire expanded. Islam expanded by Muslims invading other territories. This helps them expand Islam because once they invade; they take charge, and expand. This information is from Document A. Another way they expanded Islam was that they joined forces.
The Mali Empire (North Africa) and the Swahili Coast (East Africa) were both medieval civilizations in Africa that had similarities and differences throughout their reigns largely due to geography. One of the main similarities between the two is the fact that they were both resource-rich empires who used trading to their advantage. Mali had a lot of natural resources such as gold, salt, copper, and ivory. They got their main source of income from trading and selling these resources throughout the Sahara. The Swahili Coast also was also very fruitful; the merchant class traded things from the interior of Africa to traders from Arabia and India.
Mali was an Islamic kingdom during the Middle Ages in West Africa. This was caused by Principle of Culture 9 (“Culture is changed by inside and outside forces.”) This was because outside forces or traders would come to trade and tell them about Islamic ways. An inside force that changed them was a king named Mansa Musa who was the first king to push Islam and its culture in Mali. Mali was Islamic because the people of Mali valued the religion and Mali was influenced by Islamic architecture and arts.
The Islamic Empire was huge, large, and untied. The early Islamic empire expanded by fiercely attacking and conquering other lands, as well as uniting them. To start off, In Document A (which is reliable because it happens to be written by Muslim historian Ahmad al-Biladuri in the 800s) it talks about how they killed 70,000 people. Even girls helped in creating a bloodbath which shows how fierce and strong they were on a battlefield and how they easily took more lands.
Well the world may never know but, the Muslims did. The expansion of the Islamic empire was a big time in history for the Muslims, it was their big breakthrough. The most important events that caused the expansion were the military, the treaty of Tudmir, and the granting of gifts. I think the most significant reason the Muslims had a big breakthrough and expanded was because the military.
By 632, Islam spread throughout the Arabian Peninsula, By 661, Islam expanded towards Byzantine territory, and by 750, Islam expanded far east and far west. Throughout the different the rulings of each Caliph or empire, Islam began to grow more and more oversees. Each period of a certain rule, Islam increased their geographical rule to expand and educate the non-Islamic territories. “In the 636, the Byzantine Emperor Heraclitus (”hair-uh-kil-us*) gathered an army at the Yarmuk River in Syria to resist the expansion of Islam.” (Doc F).
The Islamic empire was a dominant force for about 600 years, they were so dominant that even today we see many examples of their impact on the world now. They conquered territory which spread from Spain through east Asia. They faced many geographical barriers due to their unique location such as the terrain of the Arabian peninsula but they dealt with this adversity. The Islamic Empires' geographic extent, contributions and ideas in all fields, and influence on different regions led them to have a lasting impact on the world.
The Muslim world expanded tremendously during the 1300s to 1700s. The Ottoman Empire and Safavid Empire were two out of the three empires that had significant changes during these time. Though the Ottoman and Safavid Empire contrast on leaders and ways they rule, they similar on their declination and cultures. In the Ottoman Empire, multiples leaders contributed to the growth of the Empire. Ghazis were warriors for the Islam that followed strict Islamic rules.

Songhai thrived for many years till it fell into unstableness because of unsuccessful emperors. Eventually, Songhai Empire collapsed.
