Long ago, during the 7th century, there was a man named Mohammed (PBUH) who lived in a city called Mecca. One day, while he was meditating in the cave of Hira, a voice came to him and said “Proclaim!” He then starts to preach and spread the teachings of a religion known today as, Islam. As he began to teach, he started to gain followers and supporters. Eventually, after many conflicts and Mohammed’s (PBUH) death, the religion was able to spread much bigger rather than the Arabian Peninsula. Islam was the 2nd fastest spreading religion in the world! But there's many contributions to why it grew so quickly. The growth and expansion of Islam was mainly due to its religious ties with government, Islamic conquest, and its religious benefits.

The trade routes was a key reason why Islam spread to the nearby territories. Trade routes were used to share ideas (cultural diffusion) and trade valuables. In Doc A, it showed the numerous trade routes being used throughout the Arabina Peninsula, Byzantine Empire, and the Persian Empire. Not only was this one of the easiest and favored way for spreading Islam, but it was also the most peaceful as well. Illustrations by Doc C provided information about how much Islam grew. By 632, Islam spread throughout the Arabian Peninsula, By 661, Islam expanded towards Byzantine territory, and by 750, Islam expanded far east and far west. Throughout the different the rulings of each Caliph or empire, Islam began to grow more and more oversees. Each period of a certain rule, Islam increased their geographical rule to expand and educate the non-Islamic territories. “In the 636, the Byzantine Emperor Heraclitus (”hair-uh-kil-us*) gathered an army at the Yarmuk River in Syria to resist the expansion of Islam.” (Doc F). This document shows how the opposing territories tried to resist the expansion of Islam, so they fought. By defeating Heraclius, Islam grew from Spain, all the way to Turkmenistan. By taking over the neighboring territories and using taking advantage of the trade routes, the Arabs were able to spread Islam over the Arabian
