The early Islamic empire expanded using three methods. These methods included military conquest, political means, and financial incentives. First, the Islamic empire expanded through military force. According to the document A: battle of Yarmuck, the battle was fierce and bloody. 24,000 Muslims took part and 70,000 Greeks were put to death.
From the three documents provided, Documents A, B, and C. I think that the Early Islamic Empire expanded war, by truced, and rare peace. It changed dramatically. The spread of Islam from 632-661. The battle in al-Yarmuk was the fiercest and bloodiest of its kind.
The Islamic Empire expanded quickly by conquering a vast amount of territory and for the development and appreciation of knowledge and science. The Muslims were fair and tolerant to the people they conquered. The commander of the Muslim forces, Abd Al-Aziz, told Theodmir, the king of southern Spain, that, “His followers will not be killed or taken prisoner, nor will they be separated from their women and children. They will not be coerced in matters of religion, their churches will not be burned, nor will sacred objects be taken from his realm, as long as he remains sincere and fulfills these conditions that we have set for him” (Document B, Treaty of Tudmir, 713 CE). By making this treaty, the Spanish people were allowed to be free and practice
A final example of spreading Islam through conquest was how the Muslims won a huge, bloody battle against a Byzantine army. “When by Allah’s help the ‘unbelievers’ were defeated and the Moslems won,...” (Document F). This shows that if the Muslims had the strength and the manpower to defeat this big of an army, conquering other lands one by one would have been a breeze. And with the devotion the Muslims showed to their religion, they would have captured many cities with the purpose of spreading Islam as
Document C also states, “Islam spread east to the Indus river and north to the Caspian Sea.” This shows the religion itself spread very far due to conquest. The large, quickly conquered area was under Muslim control, exposing the people to the religion and causing them to
Islam is a religion that controls their follower's daily lives. It quickly spread throughout many large and small civilizations all throughout the world. Two civilizations that Islam affected were the Byzantine Empire and China. The Byzantine empire was the section of Rome that remained after the fall of Rome and was a very successful civilization in its time. During the rise of Christianity, the Byzantine empire became a Christian-based civilization and used the church to solve its political and economic problems that sprang up after the fall of Rome.
The Spread of Islam Muhammad ibn Abdalah (founder of Islam) was a frequent visitor to a cave nearby Mount Hira. He used his time at this cave to pray, and get away from the scramble for money and wealth he felt was causing his people to lose their way. According to Muhammad’s words in the Qur’an, on one particular visit to the cave, the archangel Gabriel caused words to flow from his mouth. The words concluded with, Allah is the one true God. Two years after receiving Allah’s words, he decided that it was finally time to teach these words to the public.
Muhammad refers to the people of the book, as in the people of the bible such as those in Spain believing in Christianity. By maintaining peace between these other religions, citizens of other faiths willingly contributed to the Islamic empire. They participated in the community like citizens of the Islamic faith, sharing ideas and partaking in trade. The religion was able to expand with the conversion of people from other religions, but more importantly the accepting nature of this religion made other Islamic innovations
Barcelona,Leann Per#5,History Early Islamic Empire Expansion The early islamic empire expand in many ways, One of the factor that help them expand is when the religion islam become popular to other people or empires.” The Muslims Gathered together, and the Greek army marched against them”. It also help them expand when the muslims win the battle/war because that battle they fought at al-Yarmuk that is between the Muslims and the Greek army is the fiercest and bloodiest kind.
Some evidence is that in Document A it shows the trade routes which went all the way to constantinople which means they had of space to trade and get goods or give goods. This show they had a lot of places to trade and probably when they went to trade they probably talked about their religion also they can use the materials given to them to make them into something like weapons which made it better to take over more land. Finally this is why trading was a reason why Islam spread quickly. Another reason why Islam spread quickly was the military conquest. Some evidence to this is in Document C it shows the places they conquered all the way to tours, In document F it shows the wars they had to fight to conquer that much land it also shows that they were outnumbered 10-1.
Specifically, J.J. Saunders suggest from The Caliph Omar "Fight in the cause of God against those who fight you, but do not be the aggressors. The early Muslims thus fought their heathen enemies," Saunders explains how the Quran suggest ways of conversion, and if they cannot succeed using their word, they use the might of the sword. This can be interpreted many ways, but typically this was used as a way to expand the empire. Very few other religions have the word from their holy book, saying use the sword to expand. Therefor, Islam was able to expand in a way that no other religion could.
Through the Qur’an and Sunnah Muslims were able to follow the five pillars of Islam and follow the religion of Islam. However as the Muslim empire expanded leaders came across new and different problems/situations. Muhammad has said to solve these problems
In the Why Islam Spread So Quickly reading it states, “...A series of ghazu raids against the non-muslims communities in the neighboring countries. The unity of the ummah would be preserved by an outwardly directed offensive [attack].” This relates to the spread of Islam because Muslims use a strategy of raids against non-muslims that would preserve the unity of the ummah. Lastly conquest and war guided Islam to a large population with the help of the Byzantine and Persian Empire.
Religion can be used to advance an agenda of terrorism, an idea that contradicts one of the primary agendas of most religions: peace and unity. The Muslims militarily conquered about 4,000 miles of land. Concurrently, the Quran states that in
Muhammad was a leader who fought for the purpose of religion (Rangoonwala, Sy, & Epinoza, 2011). Even before Islam was emerged, the Greeks and Romans affected the whole area from Libya, Egypt, and India. Muhammad formed the basis of Islam, which is still present today (Shaker, 2012). Muhammad and his followers traveled the Middle East, spreading the new religion and the new way of life to gain more people following them. These men and women still continue to follow the Law of Islam based off the Quran.
