Did you know that the Qur’an, the holy book of Islam, values human life so much that one life is considered the equivalent of all the lives in mankind? Islam had many other interesting rules like this in many areas, such as land ownership and self defense. Muhammad ibn Abdallah was one of the first people to hear about this new religion. Archangel Gabriel informed him that Allah was the one god, and after 2 years, Muhammad finally spread his words. At first, many people resisted his teachings, but soon thereafter, Islam began exploding in popularity. The Islamic religion spread into lands from “Tours and Tangier to Kabul and Bukhara” (Document C). The followers of the religion spread Islam to many cities by conquering their lands and converting the people there to Islam. Another example of how Islam spread so quickly through military conquest is how they got all the Muslims together and attacked some of the non-Islamic communities. “The obvious answer was a series of Ghazu raids against the non-Muslim communities in the neighboring countries” (Document D). By getting all the people that practiced the religion of Islam and organizing an outwardly-offensive attack together against all the other countries, these Muslims have been able to easily overpower and conquer countries, therefore spreading their religion. A final example of spreading Islam through conquest was how the Muslims won a huge, bloody battle against a Byzantine army. “When by Allah’s help the ‘unbelievers’ were defeated and the Moslems won,...” (Document F). This shows that if the Muslims had the strength and the manpower to defeat this big of an army, conquering other lands one by one would have been a breeze.
