The major setting in the story is in California in the mid-1960s on Orchard Avenue in a large university town. The more specific settings are Casa Rosada, the school, and the back of the Professor’s store A-Z Antiques Curios Used Merchandise. I think the author chose this setting because it seems like the perfect quaint town where nothing bad happens and the author wanted to make a big plot twist for when something bad happens. I also think the author choice this setting because it makes it easier to give character jobs for example, Melanie’s father works at the university and so does April’s grandmother. The setting contributes to the development of the plot because the back of the Professor’s store is where the Egypt Game takes place
