HUMAN IMPACT & INFLUENCE As mentioned in the introduction, the cured use of the Brimbank Park mainly focus on tourism such as picnic and barbecue as well as walking tours. It may lead up the fact that humans have considerably influenced the site environment such as ecological cycle in both the positive and negative ways. This portion of the report will demonstrate human impact and influence as a part of process and interaction in historical background and present context of the Brimbank Park. It may lead to the result that one of the major ideas behind the planning and reshaping the site was “human-friendly” since it worked as an open public park for individuals and communities. For instance, the built pathways for walking and cycling propose all over the Park; river banks and bridges of the Maribyrnong River. In order to achieve the idea of “human-friendly” by building those settings, the government will have to reshape the landscape for the convenience of construction of roads, pathways, shelters and play-space (Figure 3.3). The impact of human would start from the construction but keep having an influence on the site in further usage. Since the government policy was setting only few garbage bins or even none in the Brimbank Park, the waste has become one of the environmental issues in the Brimbank Park that caused by human activities. For example, some plastic bags, used tissues and even empty drinking bottles could be seen in the field beyond the wooden fence of the pathway (Figure 3.4). Those general wastes would have negative effects on fauna inhabiting in the Brimbank Park. If fauna accidentally ate a plastic bag, they will not be able to digest it, and it might leave in their bodies for a long term. Moreover, if more indigestible waste accumulated in the body, it will lead to feeding disturbance of fauna, or even death.
