With a open wound that is bleeding a medical assistant can try and control the bleeding. Remove any obvious dirt or debris from the wound. Don 't remove large or deeply embedded objects. Don 't probe the wound or attempt to clean it yet. The first thing to do is to stop the bleeding until the EMS arive.
