In 1968, American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) formerly known as the American Association of Physician Assistants was established in North Carolina by the first graduate students of Duke University Physician Assistant program. Calvin Neal Exploring a Health Career: Physician Assistant Ever since my cousin Paul, whom I’ve always looked up to, went to college and became a PA, I’ve wanted to follow in his footsteps. The definition of a physician assistant is “someone qualified to assist a physician and carry out routine clinical procedures under the supervision of a physician.” However, physician assistants can be so much more than that. They work in numerous fields such as pediatrics, obstetrics, orthopaedics, and with several health care providers such as nurses, surgeons, and physicians.
I want to become a Medical Assistant because I enjoy helping others, and making them feel better. Medical Assistant is not just a career for me, it’s a goal that I will achieve with much pride and honor, and prove wrong those people who keep telling me that I’m not going to make it. I’m not really good in science, but I’m going to push myself to try hard to achieve my goal. Don’t ever let anyone label you, be your own kind of person and make the “impossible” possible. The profession I have chosen to pursue is that of a Physician Assistant. My reason for this selection is because it gives you the independency of a Physician while having somewhat less responsibilities. A Physician Assistant provides healthcare services typically performed by a physician, under the supervision of a physician. Some of these services include but are not limited to examining and treating patients, diagnosing illnesses and counseling patients. In some case physician assistants are also tasked to prescribe medicine to patients.
In these case, the medical assistant is patient and kind at the response of the patient. They do not judge them or treated them improperly, they maintain their professionalism and thy to calm, support and help the patient in need (Maciejewski, 2007). The medical assistant is there to recall information, encourage and support the patient (Maciejewski, 2007). They can assist in surgeries, check up, and mostly anything that a doctor may need help with. They are also important because they become a big part to patients in hospitals and doctor´s office. They become a comfort to people when they come in, they help you through whatever might be going ton. Medical assistants stay by patients side no matter the outcome and no matter what it takes. They help a lot in surgeries and taking care of inpatients in the hospital that have to stay.
I want to be a physician because I want people to grow old. At the age of 6, one of my closest friends was diagnosed with leukemia. By age 8, the disease claimed his life, robbing him of the opportunity to experience the privilege of growing old. Unfortunately, we live in a society of vanity. We see the process of aging and choose not to embrace it.
Working in different settings and meeting new people that need to be taken care of has always interested me. The job I want to have while I go to college is the very challenging role of a Medical Assistant. Due to the experiences that have happened in my life, I believe that becoming a medical assistant is the best career choice for me. There are many duties and responsibilities I will have as a medical assistant.
