Summary: Improving Community Engagement At Griffith University

The analysis provided key information in providing possible solutions to creating a better engagement between the community within Griffith University and the wider Gold Coast community. We found a lot of different problems that related to how Griffith connect to the community. Main properties that we found that gave key indications to a lack of connection were; Griffith is seen as an exclusive domain where it’s perceived that only students are welcome to come onto the campus. Community are intimidated to come onto university campuses. University is seen as a place for academics and study, not leisure and engagement. These three properties are key points that we have to improve in order to create a better sense of community engagement. There will be great effects on the community that will longer commit to JRCT to having to create better projects that implement strategies to improve better ways to connect the university with the community. (e.g. frequency of reading, competent use of information) (Poll, 2003) In brief, decent-quality community spaces are essential to providing an environment that is inviting to the public. An inviting environment will allow for the community to engage in the services the space provides. Thus, attracting tourism and benefitting economically, while benefitting the public well-being and mentality. Body 5 – Our Solution/ implementing The solutions that we have planned to implement in order to create a better engagement with the wider Gold Coast community involve a short and long term goals. The short term goal is to create a street-eat market facility every fortnight on the Griffith Gold Coast Campus.
