Dear Local School Board Members, I am an after school tutor for Glacier Point Middle School in the central district. Although I’ve only been at Glacier Point for two years, I was previously working as a teacher’s aide at Wilson School Elementary School in Tulare school district. I am writing because, like you, I want to see the students in our school succeed. I am writing because, like you, I want to see the students in our schools succeed. Our district has an opportunity to invest in arts education programs that can help all of our student succeed. Students with access to arts education show improvements in multiple ways. For example, arts education shows improvements in testing scores. Students that have art education in their lives, tends to have higher test scores The arts also engage the parents and families of students who are involved in performances and exhibitions. When they have access to the arts, students of all backgrounds and cultures are more likely to become more diverse. The arts can assist teachers in the transition to Common Core standards. There are many ways, in which, art can integrated with common core. As the district moves ahead with planning and budget allocation, I hope that the board will consider increased funding to improve the district’s arts education programs. With that being said, I believe that the district should increase fundings because it allows children to have an equal opportunity in the art department. The art program can help a child develop motor skills. A child is able to boost their confidence and creativity, with the art programs. The art program can also help children make choices based on interpretation, criticizing, and using visual information. At a young age, a child uses tables and graphs in all types of subjects, which is where arts is used and developed to make visual information. A child can look at a picture in all subject, and has to observe, interpret, and criticize a picture. These not only helps a child make choices, but allows the child to be open minded and allows them to grow as an individual, knowing their opinions
