Things like that is what student these days see and find unappealing. So let's take Adam Chapnicks’ advice and conceive and developed more way to appeal students to think about the liberal arts. Teacher should learn how to make it fun to learn. One thing Adam does not mention, which seem to be a great idea is that students should not be required to take intensive classes of liberal art. Once you enter high school you start to think about your career.
In college departments are required to have a certain amount of students enrolled in one of the departments courses. If a academic department in the school cannot reach a certain amount of students over a certain time the department will have to close. Arts and humanities classes are on the decline due to the number of job opportunities available. However, arts and humanities courses are important to help develop an understanding for literature and art. Many college students are not a fan of taking arts and humanities courses because the courses do not correspond with their major.
Music and Art classes have been proven to have had a big effect on students. These classes have brought up grades, attendnce rate and higher SAT scores. These classes have opended up the kids mind and have made them more complex thinkers in other classes with higher level questions,better understadnings and higher attendence rates. Kerry Washigton a well known actress and one out of many celeberties that have helped by adopting these schools and helping to rasie money has said that without classes like this when she was young she would not be who she is today. Washigton said that with these classes she learned how to work with others and was an esstinal part in her education growing up.
The arts can assist teachers in the transition to Common Core standards. There are many ways, in which, art can integrated with common core. As the district moves ahead with planning and budget allocation, I hope that the board will consider increased funding to improve the district’s arts education programs.
Art programs can be very beneficial to students, allowing them to explore their creative interests that can be applied to a professional field of study. Programs in the category of Fine Arts and English define this area and include more specific areas such as dance, music, drama/ theatre, visual arts, and reading. These programs, as of late have been facing many cuts in their budgets, being considered less of a focus when it comes to the core curriculum needed in order to pass college. While there is a much more dramatic focus on this subject in high schools, it also affects large colleges as well. Personally, I believe that is absolutely outrageous that these programs are being cut from schools when they are incredibly important to all
Smith justified that the arts is important because not only does it improve a student’s confidence, but also in teamwork. For example in a vocal ensemble everyone has to work together for the music to sound good. This leads to teamwork and confidence too because everyone in the ensemble is relying on each other. Also in a art class, when a teacher puts a group of students to work together, it improves one’s confidence and teamwork because they all have to work with different students that have various ideas and to criticize one another. In the article “Arts Education Matters: We Know, We Measured It,” Jay Greene stated that, “ Arts experiences boost critical thinking, teaching students to take the time to be more careful” (Greene).
Disregardment for fine arts education, stems from the bitter reality that education is no longer about teaching, but has now become a financial issue. Fine arts education classes get cut because most principals or administrators feel as though these dignified courses don’t bring in enough money. But when has teaching, and preparing the children who will someday be leaders have a price? Consequently, these administrators are the same ones who have managed to change the education system. This concern, however, is not new to society.
There are public schools all over the world and those in public schools are not getting the proper education that they need. It seems public schools only provide the public with the bare minimum. This bare minimum can become very discouraging to parents, students and the entire public community in which the school is. Most Supreme Court rulings agree that school districts across the nation, and across the world, really only need to provide the bare minimum legally. This present an issue, if the professionals are only supposed to give the bare minimum then they themselves will be given the bare minimum.
Schools who educate their students in “The arts, enhance the process of learning. The systems they nourish, which include our integrated sensory, attentional, cognitive, emotional, and motor capacities, are, in fact, the driving forces behind all other learning” (Jensen 186). In addition, people who study the arts have been found to spend more time doing productive things, and less time watching TV (Ruppert). A report published by the U.S Department of education, titled First Lesson: A Report on Elementary Education in America, and written by W.J Bennett, a renowned psychologist, it is stated that an arts education will help students later in life. It was noted that students who receive an arts education develop an understanding for learning, and this development will promote better performance in other subjects including languages, geography, and even applied medical sciences and engineering
The arts were pushed into a corner, despite being able to help students grow who they are as people, but also help them in other important areas of school. The arts are important in education and should get funding appropriately. Receiving a good education in the arts can greatly help a student’s mental well being. Why are music classes mandatory subjects in schools? They really aren’t as beneficial as people believe they are. Music classes shouldn’t be required because they’re replaceable, unnecessary, and sometimes harmful to students who don’t want to take them. All of these cancel out any “benefits” that mandatory music classes have. Electives are fine, but as mandatory classes, they’re either worthless or harmful.
It is important to study something in school that you enjoy but that is also useful in the real world. I have always been asked, “what's your major?”. I would answer art history and always got a response like, “what are you going to do with that?”. Most parents and students don’t feel that there is a good foundation from learning Art History. It is often heard from high school and college students (influenced by their parents) that to succeed you must major in science, technology, engineering, or business.
“Arts education is critical for helping students develop creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving abilities” (Chernin). The arts can help people succeed. Art is a way that people can express themselves and share their beliefs. Arts in education can help people focus and attend. Fine arts are important because they make a huge impact on kids education, they make an impact on how people pursue their life careers, and it also helps with stress and anxiety.
1.2 Statement of Significance Art can do lots of things that can create powerful and great changes in ourselves. Artist is someone that is so hard to read if we fail to understand them to interpret the underlying meaning behind their painting because it is their getaway to express their emotions and desires to the community. To accomplish this, the artists are communicating with the society by delivering their messages through their artworks.
