The author of this book, David McCullough, is most commonly known for his written works. He also takes a huge role in being a narrator, historian, and lecturer. Author David McCullough wrote the book titled “1776” that was first published by the company Simon & Schuster on May 14, 2005. The main topic of the book is focusing on the events that surround the beginning of the American Revolution. Although a majority of the book revolves around George Washington, author David McCullough gives attention to several other people like King George III and Henry Knox. McCullough shares different points of view throughout the book of different people as George Washington, King George III and even the common soldier. The seven chapters consist of about three sub divisions per chapter. Throughout chapters one through seven, there are several key points that are discussed.
Chapter one begins in October 26, 1775 with the first person introduced, King George III McCullough then explained the conditions of England prior to and during the deployment of British troops to America. The war under commanders Howe and Washington officially began in Lexington then continued with the battles of Concord and then Bunker Hill. After King George III heard about the Bunker Hill incident, he sent his British troops off to Boston to take park in the battle.
As the troops are traveling to Boston McCullough tells about the troubling conditions happening in America in this time. McCullough also depicts how terrible the America’s soldiers are and tells the points of view of the leader of the colonies. General Washington troops faced Boston Harbor, in early March 1776. Washington had a huge problem with the men in his army as they were suffering through winter months with lack of food, diseases and even homesickness. In the end only 1,000 out of 10,00 agreed to
