Morgan Parker engaged my attention as a audience member just be the title of her piece. Firstly, scanning it at its first glance, you would think there should be a question mark after black, well that is what I thought. I reread her title for three times, and that is when I came to a conclusion that Parker was not asking a question, Parker was making more of a statement. Of course, I should have known that, but I did not. Parker made a claim that she was privileged. Which is ironic because looking at the things that are happening today and what happened in the past it is safe to say that blacks are no where near privileged. So that is where the sarcasm kicks in, Parks goes on to saying that she’s privileged enough to have money to pay and buy these treatments to restrict her from hating herself because she is black. In addition to blacks being at a disadvantage, Parker mentions Ancestry.com and she did not critized the website. In fact, she exposed Ancestry.com for the liars that they are. Tired from what? Tired from society who makes them feel ugly in their own skin. A society who does not accept you if you are not a white person. A society where it treats minorities as animals who needs to be tamed. I connected to what Parker said because this is a generation that is all about technology, so it is easier to send hateful comments and read nasty comments about your own race. There will always be that one behind a plastic computer screen, whose mission that day is to try and destroy someone’s self confidence and make them feel disgusted of themselves.
