In this article, Amadeo starts off by emphasizing on the history and definition of the American Dream by repeating what James Truslow Adams once said, “The American Dream is that dream of a land in which life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement.” The American Dream can be expressed and defined in many different perspectives and ways. With the support and funding from Stanford University, Harvard University, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, it is safe to say that the ideas and points created in this paper are credible. These reputable organizations are the backbone of this paper and that creates confidence to the reliability and credibility to the entire research paper. This paper presents credible data and useful supporting statements and graphs that could aid me in my senior project, I can use all of these resources to help compare and contrast the differences of the current day American Dream to the past and how it they have evolved or stayed the same. One of the most important aspects given by this paper is the amazing quality and specific data that can easily be used to compare trends from the history to present day.

He imagines a kid wanting to sell lemonade in the neighborhood but with just a matter of time, other people are able to manipulate resources and do a better job that the original kid selling the lemonade. Then a majority of rich kids began controlling the market of lemonade sales around the neighborhood, basically creating a monopoly. Manson says all this to prove the point that preconceptions that people have only negatively influence society and while moral or immoral, people justify their actions as a step closer to the “American Dream.” What Manson wants to emphasize here is that people are only hurting themselves and the people around them, thus the title of the article describing how the American Dream is killing people. One of these preconceptions is that the American Dream causes people to believe that they are only worth what they are able to achieve and if one is not able to achieve anything significant, they are nothing less than useless. This type of thinking is real and people really are affected by the thinkings of society and where they
