According to Anderson, Vancouver's European society perceived the Chinese settlement based on the culture of race and created a social concept known as "Chinatown". Even though there was no accurate evidence that Chinese people were somehow different or dangerous for the rest of the Vancouver, the authorities and researchers believed that they were.
