Title: Cripple No More Author: Manik Ready Text Type: Short Story “Cripple No More” by Manik Ready is a story about a young Indian boy called Rajesh who was violently beaten up by a crowd of Fijian people. I think that the violent people in Cripple No More relate very much to reality. I am saddened to read how Rajesh is beaten so badly his disabled leg became dead and had to be amputated. Rajesh never had any friends in his life because of his disability until he met a Fijian girl called Niami. Niami was kind and caring to Rajesh so they quickly became friends. I am grateful that I always have friends to talk to, but I can’t help but notice people around Saint Kentigern College who perhaps might like to have more friends. Children around the world sometimes pretend everything is okay but they secretly are begging for help and someone who is interested to talk to about the problem rather than that problem lingering. The theme of violence is important to learn about because no one should have to prove themselves to be accepted even if they are disabled in any shape or form. You are what you are, not what people expect you to be. Rajesh needed to realise this early on so he didn’t became a sad, emotional person to be around.
