In the engaging book Forge, by Laurie Halse Anderson, Curzon escaped from his slave master. He is alone but then decides to join the army again. When he joins the army, he goes to Valley Forge. The young soldiers there are suffering from cold, hunger, and the British army who may attack them. Curzon's past catches up with him when, still at Valley Forge, his old master, Bellingham, finds Curzon there. Curzon is re-enslaved by Bellingham. He finds that Bellingham has also captured Isabel, a former friend. Curzon has much hatred towards his master, Ballingham. He does not let Bellingham do anything to him. He is also very insistent to fight for Isabel's freedom. Curzon will also go through any pain and any unfortunate events to fight for independence from Britain. Curzon is a brave person who is determined to fight for the things he believes in, including independence from the slave owners, Isabel's freedom, and independence from Britain.

Curzon is captured by Bellingham from the army, and Curzon sees Isabel in Bellingham’s property. Isabel will not speak to Curzon for a little while. She finally gets Curzon alone and tells him why she was ignoring him. Isabel says nothing until Curzon sees the secret she’s been hiding. “An iron band circled her neck, fastened there by a lock that hung like a hideous jewel… ‘We’ll find a way to remove it once we’re far away.”’ Isabel has an iron collar around her neck that Bellingham put there when he saw that she tried to escape three times. Curzon sees this and he is exasperated. He stays calm for Isabel, though, and promises her that they will remove the iron collar once they have escaped. Curzon is determined to help free Isabel and keep her safe. While Curzon is helping Isabel, he does not forget his link with the
