The main goal in people’s lives is to achieve happiness. There is no set in stone way to live a happy life, so people can use others’ experiences to help them get happiness. Additionally, people live in a world with technology, and the new technology helps them get more information and work efficiently. Since people think technology is beneficial and brings more happiness, they all choose to use it and change their lifestyles. In the essay “Reporting Live from Tomorrow” written by Daniel Gilbert, he describes how people predict their future emotions by using others’ experiences.
Matthew Bershadker claims in his article, “How to Fight a Puppy Mill,” that we can end the mass production of puppies by taking the “No Pet Store Puppies” pledge and confronting the government about possible bills regarding animal sales. Bershadker is the President & CEO of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Even though Bershadker does explain the growth in governmental help related to the end of puppy mills, he does not elaborate on the ways in which an ordinary individual can be active in the protest. In the article, “What You’ll Do Next”, written by David Brooks. The writer talks about how data is collected and the different ways it is used now in the world. He also starts to talk about his main purpose of this article and tells us that people now are using data collected to predict human behavior. Brooks believes that although data is useful, it’s not useful for human behavior. That he also believes people shouldn’t let data tell them what personal decisions to make.
William Julies in his book, When Work Disappears: The World of the New Urban Poor. He tries to address and discuss what happens when jobs leave the black communities and what is the reason jobs are leave the inner cities of black communities. He claims that work disappears because of poor economic conditions and academically abled works in poor or black communities. As a result, jobs tend to move to suburbs or to other countries even. He says that this cause a chain of events, when big businesses leave smaller business lack the customers able to buy their products and that causes those small mom and pop companies to close down as well, leaving the black community in a state of distress.
