Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was a Baptist minister, as well as a social activist for civil rights. Dr. King is known for many things and one of those was for his famous speech, “I Have a Dream” (Biography.com, 2018). The speech was presented on the 28th day of August 1963, in Washington D.C., located at the Lincoln Memorial. During his speech, Dr. King would make references to bible verses to relay his points on equality, which also followed his belief that all race of people could live in unity through God (Americanrhetoric.com, 2018). One of the verses he used in his speech was out of the Old Testament, Isaiah 40: 4-5; “4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: 5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it” (Bible Gateway, 2018). The correlation between the bible verse of Isaiah 40:4-5 to what Dr. King was envisioning to what he was hoping to see come to light between the different races of people. The verses in Luke 3:5-6 is saying the exact same message as Isaiah 40:4, everyone is equal, and everyone will see that God can do this. Still today, these verses are still trying to be achieved by many people from different nationally. You will hear on the news, see protestors, and articles on the news and social media, of people wanting equal rights. Everyone wants to be treated with equal respect and dignity, regardless of who they are or where they come
