The earliest colonists who came to Americas in search for better land, opportunities would have to struggle before finding what they came in search for. They face many circumstances one of them being they didn’t speak the language and where new to the land. Throughout time they learn to cultivate crops exchange items for food etc. Life for the earliest colonists was harsh. According to chapter 3 where we learn about the settlement in Jamestown. The colonist weren’t received with a nice welcome; instead they face an attack from the natives on their first night in Jamestown. Many of the colonists would die due to disease and starvation. The English use violence to get what they wanted which cause distrust for the Powhatan’s Chiefdom. The colonists brought many diseases with them when they arrived to the new land. This would cause many of them to die and many more would die due to the attacks from the natives. For example, they learn to grow crops or force the natives to grow it for them. John Smith had a saying ”He that will not work shall not eat”. They soon started growing tobacco it became a great source of income for the colonists. With this growing they were able to be independent and rule over the natives. Soon they would take over the natives land. In spite of all these events many colonists would not survive. Women and children would work also to contribute. But that would not be enough for the tobacco industry to grow. It would require more work hence the indentured servants would do the labor. In my opinion yes they face some circumstances that might discourage others to come to the new land. Yet, they did all right after getting use to the new land and learning the language. After this the natives and English form relationships to survive with each other. Natives taught the English how to grow crops and survive thru all the weather changes. While the English exchange their possessions for corn and fruits. Yes natives and English men didn’t get along in the beginning but at the end they became friends.
