Burrough investigate about the use of censorship by the government and the their power over citizens which restricts individual’s freedom of thought. He states that the power the government gained through censoring certain materials is questionable and censorship is merely making people more sensitive towards censored materials. Ahmad—Showing that firemen will start burning things instead of ending fire was a very nice idea I don’t know how you came up with this idea. Bradbury—I was thinking about the things that happen in real life but we don’t see it. We always see doctors as good people because they risk our lives but not all of the doctors are good just how we think. I want you to think decently about this if you meet somebody doesn’t think he is good just because he is a doctor or he is bad because he has another job that you don’t like. Regardless of the rise in technology, society is not becoming anti-intellectual like the society in Fahrenheit 451. In the article, Are we living in Bradbury’s 451? by Mathew Ingram, the author provides valid arguments about technology and how it helps rather than creating or contributing to an anti-intellectual society. Technology informs the population about the news, politics, allows access to online classes, directions to locations immediately, and social interactions around the world. Not only does it benefit us however it also benefits the environment by cutting back on the production and use of paper, helping create a “greener” environment.
In the novel Farenheight 451, Guy Montag meets a girl names Clarisse. She was no ordinary girl. She broke the rules, defied the government all the way until her death. By this I mean she was creative. The government was so ruling you could not read any books.
Montag’s entire mindset transforms when he meets the seventeen-year-old Clarisse, who has many modern ideas that opposed the thought of every other civilian in this world. This meeting deeply affects Guy and makes him to begin to question every variable in his life. Mildred’s suicide was an event that also shaped Guy’s character because it was the moment where he realized he no longer loved her. Guy’s first form of theft and rebellion was when he stole a book from a house he burned down. At this point, he was slowly becoming less and less caring of the rules he abided his entire life.
The book Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury talks about a fireman named Guy Montag. Guy Montag’s occupation is to destroy books because it is illegal to have and read. Guy Montag, and majority of society never thought to question why is was illegal to read books, until he became friends with a girl named Clarisse. Clarisse makes Montag wonder why it is illegal to read books, and he begins to question the existence of life. Guy Montag goes through multiple encounters to influence his look on life and to begin to question many things.
In Fahrenheit 451 the society is burning books and not getting any knowledge. I do believe our society is on the brink of doing the same and not learning anything. I believe that our society is making new technology to replace hard books and we are not learning from it. I also think that bradbury is right about the future of the society.

You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Although Mildred is a minor character throughout the text, her image as the poster girl of the dystopian vision of the future Bradbury had created highlights that in a society where technology is all-powerful and all-consuming, true happiness is seldom found. Bradbury depicts characters who have an awareness of life outside of technology to be genuinely happier and more sincere, whereas those who have conformed to mores of society are consequently dissatisfied with life. Montag struggles with his newfound fascination with what was once trivial items because of his inability to ask questions under the bonds of conformity. However, the society prohibits people from reading for fear that they would express individuality and perhaps even rebel once they gain knowledge. In Ray Bradbury’s book Farenheit 451, it is illegal to own books, and society deems people who “think” and “question” unfit and those people are wanted by the government. In the novel, Bradbury ironically pictures firemen as a group of men who create fires, and the people who “think” and “question” are killed. In this book themes of conformity verses individuality, importance of remembering and understanding history, and freedom of speech and the consequences of losing it. These three thematic ideas are major factors that contributed to how the society’s everyday life is executed.
A dystopian society is a dysfunctional society that is marketed to its citizens as a utopian society. It includes elements such as a lack/ downplay of religion or one government sanctioned religion that everyone must follow. The government either uses force and or fear to control its population. There is a suppression of freedom of speech and a suppression of intellectualism. In this society, there is a protagonist who rebels against the status quo.
