In the novel, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Louie is tortured by being dehumanized and isolated while being a POW. Throughout the book, Louie is being treated poorly by his captors, but resisted giving up. One example is in chapter 17, Louie was being transported to a camp and is put on the ground. The text states, “Louie said something to Phil and immediately felt a boot kick into him...” (page 181).
Louie Zamperini. He was a legend if you ask me. Not many people know who it is. Louise and Parini was an Olympic runner who is also fought in World War II. Louie Was captured by Japan to become a prisoner of war where he would be put through the most gruesome, brutal months of his life.
An In-Depth Analysis of the Novel Unbroken The novel Unbroken, a biography written by Laura Hillenbrand, focused on the true life experiences of Olympic runner Louie Zamperini. Unbroken would later become a movie. Louie ran in the Olympics in 1936 before being drafted to war to fight the Japanese during World War II. Louie’s plane, the “Green Hornet,” crashed at sea.
In the article, “Shattered Lives” by Kristin Lewis, Dania faces many challenges. One challenge that she faced was that she was part of a war and had to leave all of the things she loved behind. According “Every man in camp was thin, many emaciated… Rations weren’t nearly enough…Unheated,drafty rooms.” (Hillenbrand,Part 2) This shows that the POWs were treated terribly by the Japanese , making them have a harsh life in their imprisonment. This proves that the Japanese made the Pows invisible during their harsh bad imprisonment.

Michelle Alexander in the first chapter, reviews the history of racial social control in the United States. She describes the different forms and patterns of the racial caste system. The author maintains that the racial prejudice and hierarchy has been sustained as a result of the insecurities of the lower-class whites. Susanna Kaysen’s “Girl Interrupted,” is an autobiography about Kaysen’s two-year stay at a mental hospital as she battles borderline personality disorder. Although in denial, Susanna Kaysen is diagnosed with borderline personality disorder but is unable to come to terms with her illness as she reassures herself she is fine. The reader learns that Kaysen is an unreliable narrator that is unable to discover the truth behind her illness. Through the exploration of her relationships, actions, and opinions, only enhances the fact that Kaysen is mentally ill. Through her past and present relationship’s, Susanna demonstrates her self-destructive tendencies.
This disobedience only adds to the conflict which is not good for either of the two. The mother then finds out that she has breast cancer. Lola, the daughter, has no sense of empathy towards the mother. They still fight like crazy. And after more time has gone by, the daughter finally decides that it is time for her to run away and literally get out of the hands of her mother.
