Whether we are watching the news or reading the newspaper, we hear stories of how women are brutally abused by their husbands, someone who had promised to love her in sickness or in health. Many times we hear that these women end up dead, because the abuse was so brutal that they couldn’t take it anymore. These stories though, are most commonly heard of in the black community, also known as the ghetto. In the article “From Fly Girls to Bitches and Hoes” Joan Morgan connects the abuse of black women in their community to the lyrics of Rap and Hip Hop artists, and how they are influencing the black male. In the title alone, Morgan raises the question of how we went from asking a girl “Suga how you get so fly?” (Baby Bash – Suga Suga) to saying …show more content…

saying things like “Everywhere I go, I see the same hoe” or “All I want is a Big Booty Hoe.” They are objectifying the women as someone who is lower class and that they only need them for sex. Mean Girls basically shows how all these girls have “beef” with each other, and how they can come up with a solution. Mean Girls is my favorite example for this because it doesn’t just show the drama between a certain group of girls. Near the end of the movie, when all the girls are in the gym, the issues between white girl cliques, whether sporty or girly, Asian cliques, and even black cliques are addressed. At the end of the film, one can see how all the issues are resolved between the girls. In this movie Tina Fey famously says “You all have got to stop calling each other sluts and whores. It just makes it okay for guys to call you sluts and whores.” And she is right. When the girls were in the gym near the end of the movie, the male principal tries dealing with the issues that these girls are having until he realizes that he can’t. He then calls upon Ms. Norbury, a female teacher who helps the girls figure out their issues. This just goes to show that women cannot allow men to try and fix our problems, or be the center of our problems. As women, we have to learn to fix our own issues the best way we can, and that is not by beating each other
