Hosea 14 is the 14th chapter of the Book of Hosea in the Old Testament containing prophecies of prophet Hosea. Hosea’s name means salvation. He is the son of Beeri. This is the only book that shows the Northern Kingdom, through the eyes of a native. God tells Hosea to marry Gomer, who is a harlot. God compared the people of Israel to Gomer because of their betrayal. God was good to his people, as was Hosea to Gomer. The Israelites started to stray from God, pray to other “idols” and commit sins. God used Hosea as a prophet, to speak to the Israelites about their sins and to ask God for forgiveness. Breaking the covenant with God typically results in punishment and destruction and the end of the people’s relationship with God, but God does not want this relationship to end. There are many strong verbs, nouns, and adjectives used to depict the words and images. Verbs include, stumbled, receive, save, heal, love, blossom, live, answer, walk. Nouns include the locations discussed already, dew, lily, cedars, grain, idols, Ephraim, fruit, the transgressors and the righteous. Adjectives include graciously, freely, luxuriant, wise, and discerning. One connection between these words are that they relate to God. They can be groups as “for God” or of God” Whether it is actions of God or for/toward God or descriptions of those actions, in Hosea 14 these words relate back to the God of Israel. Hosea 14 is divided into 9 verses. It is divided into verses 1-3 promising God’s blessing and 4-9 is all God will do if ask for forgiveness. Hosea 14 shows God’s divine beauty and dedication to his people. In a time of injustice and people being more interested in themselves than God, God was still able to love and forgive.
