During World War II, propaganda was used heavily to encourage people at home to support the war effort in any way they could. The posters were directed towards both men and women for many different purposes. However, they all had one main goal and that was to get as many people working together to supply and support the war. Specifically the poster, “Keep Theses Hands Off! Buy The New Victory Bonds” was just one of the many produced during the time period. The Canadian poster “Keep Theses Hands Off! Buy The New Victory Bonds” was created in 1941- 42 by artist Gordon K Odell. He is also known for other works during that time period, mostly having to do with the topic of victory bonds. The specific reason this poster was created was to get people to buy victory bonds, and it does this in more ways than one. The poster uses many visuals such as the large world across the top and bottom as well as the picture of the mother and child. On the poster is also a pair of dark scary looking hand with the symbols of the Japanese and Nazi powers reaching for the mother and child. The phrase “Keep These Hands Off!” is written on the top section of the poster creating a sense of urgency to help save the mother and child. Then when looking at the bottom they poster is telling you to buy new the new victory bonds as a way to save them, and keep the hands off.
