This poem creates a visual image of her being alone in a room and crying because she wasn’t satisfied about the way she looked. I believe that social media plays a great role in how one should look or act like to be in a relationship. Everyone wants to be skinny because in order to be pretty you have to be skinny. I feel that the first stanza the speaker felt the pressure of being like those women on Facebook, twitter, Instagram or any other social networks. “At the gym, they told me I would not die, I would only get sexier, and I believe them” (Stein, 84). She has no confidence in herself. It is a constant desire to be someone popular on Facebook. The strongest image that supports the lack of confidence the speaker is feeling is in 12th and 13th line. “I passed mirrors and pretended they were not mirrors, but clean windows, and I was not myself…” (Stein, 84). My perception on this line is that because she wasn’t satisfied with her look she idolized these type of women. The tone that was created in this poem is depression, reflective, and bitter. This poem was very relatable because most individuals that have social media, they look at these women with perfect bodies and want to look like them because they have all these guys like their picture.
