Nothing can break the bond that a family has. The short story “Let it Snow” written by David Sedaris deals with an inconvenient snow storm that reveals the problems from within his family. Sedaris and his siblings are stuck at home for several days and his mother's drinking problem and temper threatens the lives of her children. Sedaris believed that if he was able to get the attention of his mother by making a risky life-threatening decision, then that would be the only option. However, Sedaris came to find out that not everything going on in his family is perfect, but they still love one another through all the issues. It does not take long before Sedaris’ mothers issue of drinking is present in the story. The mother explodes with rage when she could no longer take Sedaris and his siblings, kicking the them out of the house. Sedaris knew that the only way to get the attention of his parents was for something drastic to happen. The idea of one of his siblings getting hit by car soon came to mind, “With her out of the way, the rest of us would be more valuable” (76). Sedaris wants to show his worth to his parents. It was later on in the night when his mother made an appearance outside, and Sedaris wished she would have been forced to endure what they had to that day. “We wanted to send her home, to kick her out of nature just as she had kicked us out of the house, but it was hard to stay mad at someone that pitiful-looking” (76). Sedaris felt like his mother needed to feel what is was like to be treated unfairly and with no love or respect.
