The way people view Native Americans and their culture From the start of the book, it would seem like it would be about the Native culture. In this book, Louise Erdrich is expressing there’s characters through traditional native culture. As the book continues to develop you really understand the struggle they when through and how they kept their native culture alive. Love Medicine is a book that establishes the way the native culture pushes to strive to keep their culture alive and going. The book overall had such a big message of family and keeping tradition going. By keeping the family values alive and sticking to their cultural beliefs, they can make it through anything. One of the biggest issues the native culture has is keeping the tradition going. The culture itself has seen so much and has struggles to get back on their feet. When you think of the native culture a lot of people stereotype alcoholics, drug abusers and uneducated and that’s because they have had the hardest times bouncing back from all the hard times they have faced. This quote by King "I'm gonna rise," he said. "One day I'm gonna rise. They can't keep down the Indians. Right on brother, huh?" (312) is one that definitely keeps the Natives going. Not just because King said it but because that is the way they are doing it right.
