Imagine having cerebral palsy and not being able to walk, talk, or even giving a simple wave. I am reading a book called Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper. It is about a girl that has cerebral palsy and she has a lot of ups and downs in her life. I think the theme of the book is stick up for your friends and here is why. First reason I think “stick up for your friends” is the theme because, Rose learns that being a good friend is something that is a good thing. When she was at music class and she was sitting in the back row of the classroom along with the rest of H-5.The music teacher invited them to sit closer to the front . A girl named Rose decided to be a kind person and sat by Melody because she knew that Claire was making fun of her and the rest of the H-5 classroom. On page 99 ‘“I am Rose” she said, her soft voice I smiled back …… I pointed on my board to thank you. Rose seemed to understand.’

So he said she needed to go to a new family that would “care for her more or better” although she has a perfectly good family. Her mom did not at all agree with that so she stuck up for melody and yelled at Mr. Hugely and ran out of the office and threw the papers on the floor.
