Iago's manipulation technique is first seen when he convinces Roderigo, who we see loves Desdemona tells him him that he can have her even though she is married to Othello. Roderigo thinks that Iago is idiotic for thinking the impossible by saying “What should I do? I confess it is my shame to be so fond; but it is not in my virtue to amend it” (I.iii.317-318).
