“Is life in the army what Charley expected?” The book “ Soldier’s Heart” by Gary Paulsen features a fifteen year old boy by the name of Charley Goddard. His fantasy of war isn’t anywhere near the harsh reality the soldiers really have to live through. As the North begins to take the lead in the Civil War Charlie believes that he should join the Minnesota Volunteers because, ever since his father was killed by a fatal blow to the chest by a horse, he feels like he has to be the man of the house.
“Glory” is a 1989 film talking about the story of the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. It was the first regiment of African Americans from the North to serve during the Civil War. The American Civil War was fought between the Union and Confederates. The Civil War was the deadliest in American History. More than two percent of the population died during the war.
Max help Kevin out a lot because when they were in the street way but Max learned to stand up for himself and Kevin because he started to care about him and himself as well. He started to protect his friends and not be afraid of anyone. Just started to care about people and Kevin kept going on. Max would do anything for Kevin because he knew that Kevin had a problem like in the lunchroom when Kevin started choking and Max saved Kevin's life. It just shows how much Max cares about Kevin as a friend to him and not just a person but like a brother.
They were running free all summer long and the time for them to attend boarding school had come closer. Archilde’s father tricked them into going to school otherwise they wouldn’t have gone. When the boys realized Max had stopped at the mission “they didn’t wait to open the car door but scrambled over the side and dashed about looking for the gate, but it had been closed behind them. They were like animals brought to the zoo” (111). They were dragged into a world they didn’t want to be part of forced to stay in a place where their ways were seen as demonic and evil.
“In the basement of 33 Himmel Street, Max Vandenburg could feel the fists of the entire nation. One by one they climbed into the ring and beat him down. (254)”. Max’s courage is the kind that shows through everything he does, even in the smallest of ways. He gets up each morning and keeps on going despite struggling with the survivor’s guilt of leaving his family.
Max went from thinking that he did not have a brain until Kevin let him borrow his, to realizing he had more of a brain than he had ever known. Kevin may have been small, but he was intelligent and rescued and saved Max. Kevin guided Max away from Tony D. Max was big, but without Kevin he wouldn’t of known where to go and Tony D. would of probably stabbed him. “What do we do now? I ask…

Max accepts that he has to carry around Kevin and trusts Kevin to do the right thing. Max has physical and mental strength. He has the mental strength to accept that his father is in jail. He has physical strength to carry around Kevin. Max is a service to Kevin when he carries Kevin around.
“Scouts Honor”, by Avi is a realistic short story about three kids that go camping all by themselves in the country. In the beginning, the three nine year old kids worried that they weren't tough enough,so they joined boy scouts. They all wanted to get to the next level in boy scouts, so they went camping all by themselves. Soon they discover that they didn't bring the right things to go camping with, they brought things like canned beans, with no can opener. A dull hatchet, and a whole mattress.
Life at Valley Forge Brave, have no fear of someone or something. American soldiers represent bravery. The huts of the soldiers were very long and wide. The fireplace was in acceptable condition. No beds in the huts just straw and mud.
The next appearance was when a starving Max stumbled to the doorway, digging the key into his hand. After entering, Max was greeted by Hans, a drowsy Liesel, Rosa and a bowl of pea soup. He was then given a place to stay in
Max accepts Liesel’s child-like sense of entertainment. While Liesel loyally builds a snowman for Max. When the snowball scene turns out wrong, Liesel loyally tried to nurse him back to safety. Liesel had the courage to accept befriend Max and loyal enough to keep it a secret.
The four boys Chris, Gordie, Teddy and Vern were walking on the train tracks only to see a train near by, slowly closing in. All three boys get off the tracks besides Teddy, he says to the boys he can dodge it. Inches away from the train he gets saved. King constructed this scene to show more within Teddy’s personality. He used this through using the character’s tone of voice and motives, that helped to get more of an understanding from Teddy’s personality.
With hope, Max finds other people who are willing to support him, no matter what kind of situation Max and his friends have to go through to achieve their destiny. According to the novel, Max helps coach football with Coach Emery during his football practices. Referring to the settings of the football scene, it was noted that a kid whose age was half of Max’s seemed to be a better football player than Max himself. Though it is potentially true the fact that the younger kid seemed to be better than Max, he still keeps his flow and yet never giving up.
One rainy April day, 12 year old Mia Cole walks to school along the side of a muddy road in Kent, Washington. Soon after, her mother, Aubrey, leaves their small house to go to her job as a construction worker in Orting, Washington. It is a regular day in the Socialist State of America. Outside, there is no one else around, as many no longer feel the need for an education, when they could more easily get welfare and live an easy life where they do not have to work. Most houses that Mia pass contain people sitting, watching television, doing nothing.
