Love is one of the most powerful emotions to be ever emitted by humans. They can give a slight throb in your heart when you see that special someone, or even give yourself the urge to kill yourself because you believe you won’t ever see them again. Romeo and Juliet is a love story featuring two star-crossed lovers who’s raging families separate them apart. However, their intense devotion kept them together, perhaps even to the extreme. As their love began with simply being attracted to one another; it mutated into something so intense, that it would later destroy themselves and others in the process. Romeo & Juliet articulates the potency of love and how it is able cause destruction to everyone. With this in mind, the way Juliet knows that loving Romeo gives both of them a risk conveys how people will go out their way and risk to be with someone. In fact, as the play progressed, we are met with a scene where Juliet has no other choice but to marry Paris, who the Capulets originally planned Juliet to marry in the first place. The nurse was giving her advice on how she should marry Paris instead of Romeo. Soon after Juliet heard the nurse’s advice, readers can now see the thirst for Romeo from Juliet: “ If all else fail, myself have the power to die” (3.5.243). This is a crucial turning point for Juliet as it shows that Juliet is truly in love with Romeo and is willing to kill herself if she never sees Romeo again.
