In the novel, Something Other Than God , Jennifer Fulwiler tells her story of conversion. Jennifer went from rejection of anything Christian to a faithful Catholic. Her conversion is a tale of struggle and acceptance. Jennifer has what she believed to be the truth completely flipped. Jennifer is able to find God in her life by the people and experiences around her.
Jennifer believed abortion was a reasonable act. She believed that the pro-life movement was restricting a woman's freedom. She was so stuck on being pro-choice that even when she was already interested in becoming Catholic she said, “I don’t plan to change my stance on that issue.” Jennifer started digging deeper into the Catholic faith. Joe encouraged her to view what Catholics had to say on the issue instead of rejecting it. Jennifer decided to push the issue aside mentally because it did not concern her. However, one night Joe was reading several different articles on abortion. The articles included what the abortion procedure included and how the baby can be aborted till even the day before the due date. After reading through it all and talking to Joe; she officially became pro-life and she was “officially disgusted with the pro-choice movement.”

It was troubling to her that in “ten million years from now, there would be nothing left” of her. She was worried that the fear of death would haunt her every second and life was just avoiding those worries by “chasing moments of happiness.” She believed that Christianity was just “fairy tales to avoid facing reality.” Her newly found Catholic faith helped her overcome that worry though.
