“My goal for the next decade is to try to make is as easy to save the world in real life as it is to save the world in online games (Gaming).” This is the bold statement that game designer Jane Mcgonigal opens with in her TED Talk about how she believes playing video games can change the world. Although playing virtual games is appreciated widespread amongst the world, people normally see it as something more of a pastime or an escape rather than something to be taken seriously when considering real world problems, but now that it has been brought up to the front, could there really be a way to improve the world’s problems by simply sitting down and playing video games? There are ideas considering the topic of gaming that have the ability to really change the way people think and even possibly benefit the world.

With her points of Urgent Optimism, Social Fabric, Blissful Productivity, and Epic Meaning, she gave a deeper understanding to the crowd about what she really meant by her seemingly dubious idea. The comments beneath the video were both positive and negative. Some people called her childish, and others applauded her on her way of looking at things that could benefit our future. Considering she is a game designer, it was quite fitting for her to come up with a theory such as this one, and her eloquence when explaining her stance on the subject seemed to really lock people in, causing them to actually think about an idea such as this one. Playing online games certainly has the ability to enhance the positive attributes of people around the world, and with more games like Superstruct and Evoke, people could really build up their determination to change the world, whether big or
