Dr. Leonard Cole made this book on the aftermath of 9/11 and the anthrax letters attacks, they include those who were victims of the letters and it intends to show those who took care of them. Among the many, it was the dedicated effort of doctors and agents on protecting the American nation of bioterrorism or biological weapons. These hoaxes took place long before the main attacks in September - October of 2001. There were about 40 recorded anthrax hoaxes during April 1997 to June 1999, and one copycat perpetrator in December 2001. This whole chapter not only seems to explain a correlation between the early hoaxes and the actual attack that took place after 9/11 but it also shows the lack of preparation from different emergency response teams. In many of the anthrax scares, suspicious envelopes or packages were sent to companies or many would receive phone calls claiming that a contaminant was placed in ventilation systems or released in the building. All of these cases were initially treated by HAZMAT units and emergency medical personnel which had previously consulted with the CDC, “…who advised that the victims be decontaminated with a 1 percent bleach solution” (Cole, 2003, p.163). After this, units implemented a quarantine process, in which the victims were going to be “properly” decontaminated; needless to say, many of the victims expressed their discontent of being ordered to strip down all of the sudden and were soaked in Clorox for hours. Not only this, but many became stressed because of the lack of follow up from the CDC or medical units after the incidents, one victim expressed that many weren’t given medication in order to prevent the infection, if any. Once again, proving the lack of preparation from officials in relation to bioterrorism
