In Kate Dailey 's article, “Friends with Benefits: Do Facebook Friends Provide the Same Support as Those in Real Life?” Dailey compares real life friends to friends who people acquire on social media. She makes the argument that social media serves as an amplification, but not an alternative, to a “real life” social life. Dailey took this topic into her own hands by conducting polls on her personal Facebook page to get the opinions of her so-called friends on whether Facebook friends show the same support as real life friends. From these polls, Dailey came to the conclusion that though Facebook did not create friends, it provided people with virtual acquaintances.
52% of teens have said that social media has helped their relationship with friends. A lot of kids are more themselves on the internet than in real life. They express themselves more differently on the internet than they would in the outside world. Teens are usually always acting differently than what they normally would when they are on the internet. We are able to express ourselves better over the internet, than in real life, because we may be under less peer pressure.
I also believe that because of social media it is also easier to be closer to friends. On social media you can show your friends what you are doing all the time which makes it easier to connect with others. This is why I believe Gabler should have brought up social media more in his argument about how friendships are affected, but because he did not, I will talk more about arguments he does
As a kid in the early 2000, I wake up very early in the morning to watch my favorite cartoon show Pokémon. After I watch the show, I am off to play outside with my friends until dark because the internet at that time wasn’t so easily accessible nor did any social media exist. I never imagine that by 2014, people’s desire to use social media is the reason for home internet subscription and a phone plan with data. Although I do feel like social is great for online communication, I don’t see it as being a necessity and people don’t have to be on social media so often like an obsession. I think that life will be alright without social media for a day or more. I think that online communications lessen the quality of friendship and increase the number of friends that people have online.

This shows that newer generations are living in a world where their ability to start conversations with new people is absent. It is dangerous because, they never know who they are chatting with online. Social media changes children 's behaviors because they do unhealthy things that are intended for people over 18 years of age. To get kids that don’t participate in social media the knowledge of the event, I hung up posters. I hung up the posters provided to me from the Red Cross in the locker area, down the hallways, and on the windows of the entrance doors at the school. I did this so every student could see them as they go to throughout their day. However, the posters sent to me were not eye catching. So, I came up with catchy slogans about the blood drive created a poster and hung them up throughout the school.

Social media We live in a media age in which every possible information is just a few clicks away and social media has become integrated into our everyday lives as a source of entertainment, information and communication. It is especially true for the generation of students who are currently at lower and upper secondary schools and who basically grew up surrounded by modern technological advances, including social media. Palfrey (2008, p. 5-9) calls this generation “digital natives” and claims that because these students grew up in a digital age they have different expectations of what knowledge and experience they should receive in schools since information is readily available for them on the internet.
