In “Is the NBA Draft Looking at a Talent Drought in 2019? The Early Returns Aren’t Good” by Jeremy Woo, the author describes predictions made about the 2019 NBA draft class. The group does not contain much spectacular talent, which is causing draft scouts to think the class is inauspicious. Woo outlines the class’s talent problem by describing the skill of the players, the competition at big events, and the opinion of NBA scouts. The 2019 draft class does not have many stars that separate themselves from the others. In fact, the author even states that top ranked senior, RJ Barrett, even seems lacking of many skills. While Barrett is very well-rounded, he lacks perimeter shooting and many other skill sets. Likewise, Woo also describes Cameron Reddish, the #2 prospect in this class. According to the author, Reddish is a great athlete, but he lacks the emotional side of the game and sometimes seems apathetic. The author also states that Zion Williamson, by far the most popular scout, shows very little skills, besides his explosiveness and even seems prone to future injury. While the weaknesses of many of the recruits began to show, others actually improved and gained recognition.
