Elisha M. Pease was born in Enfield, Connecticut on January 3, 1812.His parents were Lorrain Thompson and Sarah Thompson. He was the fifth and thirteenth governor of Texas. When Elisha was young, he worked at a general store then later worked as a clerk in a post office. He went to school at Westfield Academy which was located in Massachusetts. He eventually moved to Mexican Texas in 1835 and stayed in Mina where he studied law under D.C. Barrett.
Book Paper: 37 Words I had the opportunity to read the book “37 Words: Title IX and Fifty Years of Fighting Sex Discrimination,” by Sherry Boschert. In this book, Boschert presents the story of women working in higher education in the 1960s and fighting for gender equity. These women realized that their frustrating experiences at work were not isolated incidents but rather part of a larger system of discrimination against women. Their activism led to the passing of Title IX in 1972, which prohibited discrimination on the basis of gender in all schools receiving federal funding.
Lucille Parkinson McCarthy, author of the article, “A Stranger in Strange Lands: A College Student Writing Across the Curriculum”, conducted an experiment that followed one student over a twenty-one month period, through three separate college classes to record his behavioral changes in response to each of the class’s differences in their writing expectations. The purpose was to provide both student and professor a better understanding of the difficulties a student faces while adjusting to the different social and academic settings of each class. Florence Kelley is a reformer and social worker who was an advocate for working women and young children. She had a mission to change child labor laws in all states and improve the condition for working-class women. In her speech, she discusses the reality of child labor and the laws that certain states have in place for child labor. In the first two paragraphs, Kelley establishes her credibility by using key facts and statistics such as “We have, in this country, two million children under the age of sixteen years who are earning their bread” and “No other portion of the wage earning class increased so rapidly from decade to decade as young girls from fourteen to twenty girls.” She also mentions the facts about laws in other states such as
Compare and Contrast Essay “A happy childhood is one of the best gifts that parents have their power to bestow”(Mary Cholmondeley).Someone’s youth can determine what kinds of paths or decisions someone makes. Childhood is an important time in a person’s life. Many kids do not get to have a happy and long childhood because it was cut short for various reasons. Poverty, war, sickness, and a bad homelife are some ways someone’s childhood could be cut short. Patsy Barnes from “The Finish of Patsy Barnes” by Paul Laurence Dunbar and Joby from ”The Drummer Boy of Shiloh” by Ray Bradbury both experienced having their childhoods cut short.
The article by Donald Murray entitled, “The Maker’s Eye: Revising Your Own Manuscripts” provides readers a better understanding of the writing process and argues that writers learn to write, by writing and rewriting. Murray also contends that writers must learn to be their own best enemy. Well, I believe I have this trait covered! I will confess, that I purposely saved this course for last, due to the number of years between my last structured learning experience and returning to school to complete a BSN degree.

White, is a short story about a man who took his son to the lake, the same lake his family would vacation at when he was a child growing up. The essay The Little Store written by Eudora Welty, is a short story of Eudora growing up in the house with her family in Jackson, Mississippi. Both essays were similar in a number of ways, one of which is imagery. Both writers shared detailed memories of their childhood.
In society, there are very few people who have the unwavering dedication to stand up for what they believe. In the novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, a black man was convicted and accused of a crime he didn 't commit, raping a white women, which is not in anyway tolerable in society. In Harper Lee 's To Kill A Mockingbird, the author used point of view and symbolism to acknowledge how the the several social divisions which make up much of the adult world are shown to be both irrational and extremely destructive. To begin with, the short story To Kill A Mockingbird, used point of view to show how the many social divisions in the world are irrational and destructive. Scout; a first grade student at the time, was telling the story from her point of view and what had occurred from her childhood perspective.

As I was reading Melissa Duffy’s “Inspiration, and Craig Vetter’s “Bonehead Writing,” I found myself connecting with Vetter’s paper more than Duffy’s. I found that the presentation in “Bonehead Writing” to capture my attention, and that Vetter’s feelings about writing was similar to my opinion on writing. Through his wording and humor, I think Craig Vetter wrote the best essay. I find that the wording and presentation of an article or essay influences my opinion of the writer, and it affects how I receive the idea they are trying to present to me. Craig Vetter uses a blunt approach to convey his idea that writing is nearly impossible to teach, and describes writing as “A blood sport, a walk in the garden of agony every time out.”
I am now able to see the areas in which I lack in but I also recognize my strengths as well. To become a precise writer, you have to take the initiatives that will help you do so. These initiatives consist of working on different academic genres, planning and organizing material, identifying purpose and audience and for revising intentionally. It is also includes reading different types of texts and learning how to understand a writer’s argument and respond to the ideas of others.

Meaning, since the beginning of time there has been a divide in the social hierarchy of the upper and lower class. The talk aims to challenge the education system and the fact that it has little emphasis on the creativity of individuals. Robinson notes that children should not only be made to pursue their studies but also follow their passions and their interests which lie in their talents.
This paper addresses the problem(s) confronting the students coming into writing centers bringing with them dissertations and proposals written in highly specialized genres. These words demand a higher level of writing skills that too frequently are not part of a writing center. The author’s findings are supported by separate surveys. The conclusions share the ideas of making the writing centers more efficient and up-to-date to meet the needs of all students across the college population.
