Coca Cola, also known as soda water, was originally made by Joseph Priestley, and local doctors prescribed it to various ailments (Standage, p.228). Joseph Priestly was also working on other inventions, but stood with soda water because many people were still purchasing the hopeful medicinal libation. Ironically, people back in the day believed Coca Cola was the cure to their illness, but today too much Coca Cola can result in health risks. Coca Cola is made up high fructose corn syrup and a great majority of sugar. With this in mind, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cholesterol can result from consuming too much
Have you ever wondered what today’s world would be like without candy? In the first article, the author talked about how candy was invented, the “Golden Age”, and how when candy was first invented it was expensive and hard to find. In the second article the author talks about nutrition facts, how much sugar is in foods, and it gave some ideas on how to not eat so much sugar. The two articles present many differences, and many similarities on how americans have been influenced by sugar. Candy has become very very cheap compared to the 1800’s.
That is true, however this argument is weak because there are in fact bigger problems than soda being a health issue. Itś your choice on whether you drink soda or not. It won't do much damage unless it becomes a very consistent thing. Though soda is bad, we have much bigger problems killing people. For example, cigarettes or smoking in general.
Soda companies' presence in schools should be discussed more often. Children must go to school and can spend up to seven hours within the school environment a day. A school environment is one in which children are there to learn, and more often than not, these children respect their teachers. In this report, I have chosen to research the effects of alcohol advertising on young people below the drinking age of 18 years-old in the UK. I will be considering how advertising, particularly that which exists in supermarkets and shops and in televised advertisement breaks, can affect the mindset and views of young people towards alcohol and whether being exposed to advertisements encourages underage drinking. I have chosen to research this topic because it is something I believe to be interesting as the shortening of childhood has been a highly debated topic in the past few decades, and I can personally connect with this topic and have had experiences with the issue of underage drinking. The very existence of sugary soft drinks is considered controversial – albeit the recent emergence of the issues it brings to the consumers, there still remains the opposition to enacting a national scale tax over sugary soft drinks. However, pursuing a tax on such drinks will garner both consequences and successes across different realms of a citizen’s lifestyle. With the increasing problems in health across the country (ranging from the obesity epidemic to the steady increase in heart related medical conditions), the cause to prevent further damaging of our lifestyle is justified. Imposing a tax on sugary soft drinks removes the incentive to purchase what is a product that negatively impacts a citizen’s health.
For the past 30 days, I could easily say that I have consumed at least one cup of Diet Coke each day since November 12th , which was when I began the road to abstinence. Soda is a highly negative product that affects me and everyone who consumes it biologically, physiologically, socially and spiritually. Soda impacts my life biologically by increasing my risk of getting diabetes, metabolic syndrome and increases in my blood pressure levels. Also, according to medical daily continuously drinking soda for long periods of time can reduce your life span “new research suggests that it can also shorten our lifespan. A recent study conducted at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) has revealed that drinking soda frequently can shorten the length of telomeres within white blood cells, which can be used as a predictor for human lifespan”
Do you really think diet soda is good for you? It is not, it is all a ploy. Think about what you have for lunch everyday. Maybe you have a slice of pizza or a sandwich, a salad and some fruit, and if you are like many kids across the country, you get a diet soda from the school’s vending machines. The government is constantly trying to interfere with our everyday lives by forcing us to eat stuff we do not want to eat and drink stuff we do not want to drink.
I found this interesting because of the constant promotion of soft drink products which make them seem harmless and healthy enough for general
Have you ever just wanted to have a soda at school? Have you ever been having a bad day at school and just want a nice cool, refreshing beverage, but then you realize… you’re at school? According to NY daily news “soda gets a bad rap for making us fat, rotting our teeth and even possibly making us depressed. They come in a towering can that is designed to captivate children and adolescent with slogans. Energy drinks are more likely to be consumed by teenagers than adults. However, down the future these risks could have a major negative effect on their subsequent health other than adults. Teenagers are constantly maturing, and their bodies aren 't fully developed; the intake of a can of energy drink prohibits their bodies from functioning on a daily basis. Since most of these researches were conducted at least 10 years ago, socially prevailed health beliefs and ideal female body shape and weight have both changed, thus gender beverage choices might also have altered. Soft drinks and their low- calorie versions could be typical examples to be examined for gender food choices to suggest whether women’s consumption of foods is stereotypically associated with caloric restrictions or not. Therefore I would like to use recent data to examine people’s choices on soft drinks and diet soft drinks and see if gender difference in drinking still exist and how the difference has
Nutritious drinks are a solution to this major problem that can even end up causing serious health effects. Finally, the majority of people who drink sugary drinks are young people.
