I read The Honest Truth by Dan Gemeinhart. This story was about a boy named Mark who had cancer on and off his whole life and his dog Beau. One day he decided to run away and leave everything behind, even his best friend Jessie. Mark and Beau’s journey to Mount Rainier was not easy. They faced many challenges along the way. However, they also ran into many kind people who helped them get to Mount Rainier. Mark and Beau eventually got to the mountain and started climbing. It was difficult to survive with the very gruesome weather they were facing. Mark was out of food and running out of energy when he saw the top of the mountain, and his hope was restored. Mark began to remember all the people that helped him along the way. With every person Mark remembered, he took a step down the mountain. Mark finally collapsed from exhaustion on his descent. He was determined to continue fighting his cancer. …show more content…

Mark doesn’t like to accept help from others and attempts a very dangerous climb all by himself. Beau is Mark’s dog and faithful companion. Beau shows his loyalty by saving Mark’s life on the journey to Mount Rainier. The second half of the story is from Jessie’s and Mark’s family point of view. Jessie is Mark’s best friend and is the only one who knows where Mark is. She struggles whether to keep Mark’s secret on where he is from his parents or to let Mark fulfil his promise to climb Mount
