An Analysis of the light novel, “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya” There are a number of Japanese mangas and novels that focuses on the philosophy of man. Mangas like Naruto, Full-Metal Alchemist and even Hitman Reborn can be examples of animes that tackles and shows what a body in this world can do and ought to do (Hoffman 2013). It is true that when one watches an anime or reads a manga and a Japanese novel, one cannot easily see or decipher the concepts laid out in the story. Thus, people look at these animes as only a work of fiction and nothing else. That is why in the Light-Novel entitled, “The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya,” Nagaru Tanigawa does not only tells a story about a high school girl; he tells a story about how one high school girl can change the world and replace God as the new creator of the world. Kyon, a cynical High school boy narrates the story and opens it by telling that he does not believe in Aliens, Time travelers and Espers. He then later on meets an eccentric girl with a name Haruhi Suzumiya. Haruhi drags Kyon to create a school club, because she cannot find an interesting one, about finding mysterious events around the world; the club was named SOS brigade short for “Spreading excitement all Over the world with Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade. Kyon, with Haruhi’s force, help in creating the group. There are three more members in the group namely Yuki Nagato, an Alien; Mikuru Asahina, a Time traveler and; Itsuki Koizumi, an Esper.
