He wiped off the slick sweat on the back of his neck, knowing it was his time to shine. Centennial Olympic Park surrounded him. The Bank of America Plaza towered to the East. He rubbed the back of his blood stained feet, shook off the blister pain, shoved his polished trainers on his feet, picked up his stick, and started for the other side of the field. He was in the big leagues now.
(page 1, par. 3). As he continues to write, he uses the word “privilege” liberally throughout his essay. In this essay, I will be analyzing how the author uses the word “privilege” in his essay to gain credibility and an emotional response from his readers.
The Holocaust was a mass genocide led my Adolf Hitler against Jewish people. During the Holocaust the main character, a young Jewish girl named Sonia experiences many horrendous things. These things consist of starvation, horrid living conditions, death marches, getting beaten and being a witness to murder. We learn that it is our responsibility to analyze everything we are told and ask ourselves how it affects the people around us. The dangers of stories that target specific groups of people are evident, and we must work towards reconciliation, and helping challenge perceptions. “What difference does it make if we write for a non-native audience, or a native audience when the fact of the matter is that we need to reach both?”(pg 55, Truth About Stories) I added this quote because it mentions how we need to reach all perspectives. It’s important that we educate ourselves on the current and past problems that minorities have faced.
How and why do narratives represent the female voice in differing contexts? Narratives represent the female voice in differing contexts as the female voice ranges from multiple experiences, and though there are similarities in each female voice, one cannot cover one whole context or voice. Which is why female voices are represented in narratives in differing contexts so that each female voice is heard and understood in their respective contexts. This is done through the novel ‘Vox’ by Christina Dalcher, written in the 4th feminist wave in 2018 and the novel ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ by Margaret Atwood, written in the 2nd feminist wave in 1985.

Of Blacks and Whites “It is not what an author says, but what he or she whispers, that is important.” -- Logan Pershall Smith (adapted) Authors have the power to influence readers not only with what they say but with what they imply. Authors can, and often will, use this power to bring light to darker times. John Steinbeck wields this power in his novella, Of Mice and Men to tell the public of the cruelty and prejudices that were directed towards minorities during the 1930s.
Movies are not only a form of entertainment, when analyzed in depth, reveal deeper levels of meaning. Depending on the approach, one can make inferences about the real world the authors want to illustrate. While many movies expose a deeper meaning, The Great Gatsby and Finding Nemo, through the use of narrative therapy, reveal the importance class and ability play in the real world. The primary problem on how privilege operates is that separation of class is indefinitely denied and discounted for, while it is the entirety of other significant differences. In addition, being genetically different is often times ridiculed and disgraced upon, due to the differences that are displayed, when they are individuals as much as anyone else.
Learning about different point of views of how certain individuals and their situations and looking at how individuals are being discriminated for how they talk and finding my own context as a writer. When I experienced these moments they made me feel like there were something wrong with me or I was different. Also, it made me feel like I was different from others… but not in a good way.
In her speech, “The Danger of a Single Story” Chimamanda Adichie states, “Stories matter. Many stories matter. Stories have been used to dispossess and to malign. But stories can also be used to empower, and to humanize. Stories can break the dignity of a people.
I live a life of considerable privilege. I am a white, upper middle class, straight, young adult, living a comfortable life. I have learned to recognize these facts, and thought I understood the meaning of my privilege; until I read this novel. The Other Wes Moore gave me a new perspective on the meaning of ‘privilege,’ and how it affects the workings of our society. This novel really opened my eyes to some of the troubles in this world, and how everyone has a story that isn’t seen on the surface.
Here and there finding out about our history through the eyes of various characters can be agitating or even agonizing, yet it additionally can be an enlivening to the obscure. Diversity in literature is also important because it has some influence on how different people are seen or not by some other cultures according to literature.
