In the play, Zoot Suit by Luis Valdez is a play of real-life events that occurred in the 1940s. The play Zoot Suit is the history of the Mexican-Americans living in Los Angeles. Mexican-American men would wear zoot suits that are flashy, stylish, and that identified each other as a Pachuco. Mexican-Americans had been living in the world of discrimination and how Mexican-American suffered injustice in the 1940s.
Discrimination is harming someone because of their race, sex, national origin, age, etc. In the lives of Pachucos are being treated differently because Pachucos look different than the white men in Los Angeles. Whenever a Marine sees a Pachuco, the Marine and its friends will strip the clothes off the Pachuco and beat the Pachuco up. In Act two and scene one and two, Tommy henry’s friend states that

Tommy thinks that his friends are the same as him and he should not be treated differently. No woman, men or children should be treated differently because of their culture, race, sex, or even how they dress. Smiley remarked that” I don’t want my wife going around begging,” (pg 68) The Mexican community tend not to seek help or others. They believe that they have to take care of themselves and protect their family.
