A Lincolnshire man once wrote, “Her grace should have her right, or else would be the bloodiest day….” She was known for being the first female monarch to rule and she ruled for five years. Mary was remembered for her burning 300 English bodies at stake. This period is called the Renaissance and it was during the 14th to the 17th century. It is an important period in European history that involved famous writers, sculptures, and painters. This time period signalled a rebirth of the arts, culture and foods. It was a time when royalty was regarded as all-knowing. Because of this, Mary was able to thrive, even with her harsh discipline against Protestants. She did make committed catholic bishops, and that was probably a surprise to others. While she was trying to get the throne she ordered her first execution at the Tower of London. Lady Jane Grey and her husband were the first to be charged with high treason. Mary was on the throne for five years and she was the main reason for so many deaths, and it didn’t solve her problems with religion. All of the people she had executed were English Protestants. All the people she had executed refused to become a Catholic, so they ended up being burned at the stake.
