Summary: The Negative Influence Of Rap Music

Music genres such as rap and hip hop have changed greatly throughout the decades. Songs used to be about having a fun and having a wonderful time, but disappointedly they have evolved to such poor songs about degrading women and talking about sex. However the artist of these songs does not notice their negative influence towards our generation. We all listen to music and are influenced by its lyrics, but the music industry’s are only influencing us in a negative way.
We live in a society where pregnancy has become very common in high school. Something that we have been trying to prevent, but with song lyrics rapping about sex, high school and even middle school kids are engaging in sexual activity. It is outrageous that even middle school kids are engaging in this. In 2013, there were 26.5 births per every 1,000 adolescent females ages 15-19 (“The Office of Adolescent Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services."). Every year the rate lowers down, but with these influences of rap artist it doesn’t help at all. Also not every teen mom goes back to school and at least graduate. More than 50% teen moms do not graduate from high school and only 2% of teen moms earn their college degree at the age of 30 ("11 Facts About Teen Pregnancy."). Male rappers in their songs aggravate woman with many different types of words that aren't sure-enough respectful. In my perspective, this leads to people not respecting woman, just for the fact that in songs woman her disrespected makes others do the same. In songs woman are known like objects that do what men want them to. They make us seem as we have no worth and deserve no respect whatsoever. Woman aren't just degraded verbally, but also sexually. They sing about a woman in saying they can use us whenever they feel like it
