Freedom Summer, or the Mississippi Summer Project, was a volunteer campaign launched in June 1964 to attempt to register as many African-American voters as possible in Mississippi, which had historically excluded most blacks from voting. The project also set up dozens of Freedom Schools throughout Mississippi to aid the local black population. The projects leadership and funding came from the SNCC and COFO, along with hundreds of white college students in the north. In 1963, the SNCC organized a mock vote for blacks, which gave them a chance to prove they were capable of understanding politics. The civil rights activists from both organizations and the white volunteers from the north faced many challenges during the campaign.
Homeroom Reflection Junior year I have grown as a student this semester by watching the mala movie. This has helped me grow as a student because it showed me how just one voice can change so much in a community. From this experience I learned how Mala was an ordinary girl but who ones spoke up for what she believed was right for her community and the people all around her. After she started to change her community on a positive way for example, have more schools so students can have an education and making sure girls were able to attend school more often. Therefore, when she spoke up for what she thought was right and changed people 's life there was some who didn 't appreciate what she was doing so decided to shot her and ended up shooting her on her forehead.
The freedom summer, also known as the Mississippi Summer project, was the nonviolent attempt for a voter registration drive organized by a series of civil rights organizations, those including Congress on Racial Equality (CORE), the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). This historical event took place in Mississippi in the summer of 1964. The main focus of this project was, as mention earlier, the voter registration drive, which intended to gather as many colored Mississippians to join the electoral register. But as suspected, may of this registration were denied by the officials, which was a callous act of injustice. As a result, the organizers formed
In the spring of my freshman year, I was faced with something I had never faced before. I either had to choose my friends and spring break or basketball. I loved basketball, but at the same time, I realized that freshman year was the year to make a lot of friends. All I had heard in the past month was my friends talking about Spring Break. I knew that basketball would take place every single weekend until August 1st.
According to TeacherHUB.com, two million children are attending year-round schools. Would the United States fully adopting a year-round schedule benefit the school systems? Switching to a year-round school schedule is highly debated in the United States. Some states and counties have adopted the year-round school schedule in hopes to “avoid the dreaded ‘brain drain’ that students experience during summer vacation”, increasing test scores, and all-around student wellness (Chen 2). Most students would not like a year-round schedule because students already do not like a traditional ten month schedule.
Year round school should not be used in today’s school, because it threatens family plans, teacher and student burnouts, and may become costly. A child’s development is based on different experiences that sometimes can only be experienced through family time and not sitting in a classroom. Many families plan vacations during the summer. Some even sending children to camps that may give them another experience that school doesn’t offer. Some children come from separated families where summer vacation may allow a child to spend time with another
School should not be year round. All around america the amount of year round schools are growing and so are the advantages and disadvantages of a year round school. Year round schools run 180 days but spread out over a whole year. The amount of breaks about every six weeks can bring lots of advantages and disadvantages to parents, teachers, and students. Year round schools can create stress but can also affect students, parents, and teachers in a positive way.
Year-round schooling exchanges summer vacation for several shorter breaks at different times of the year. Both Year-round schooling and traditional schooling have 180 days. Even though they have the same amount of days, Year-round schooling can improve a child’s academic achievement, give students an opportunity to regenerate more frequently, and may help financial expenses. Deciding whether or not to put your child in this kind of schooling is an important decision. Personally, I believe Year-round schooling is a great idea.
When considering the choice of whether, schools should convert to year round schooling or not, the choice should definitely be schools should not convert to year round schooling. A few reasons schools should not convert to year round schooling is because students can even forget something they learned, in a short period of time, and then the teachers would have to reteach the same topic, which is extremely frustrating. The students would also spend less time with their family, because they don’t have the traditional summer break. Not only that, but it causes parents more stress to have to plan ahead of time for how they were going to take care of their children whenever they had breaks (which were very frequent). If this claim is not listened to, teachers teach the same thing repeatedly, family bonds weaken, it disrupts parents work, and it risks the child’s safety.
Some schools roll our remediation programs during the summers to get student to reacquainted with the concepts they learned, and which they hopefully carry over from summer break back to class. Some people find the a noble effort, not every place can afford to include summer school in their local budgets. Have a year-round school doesn’t help with students who have difficulty with attention. The main reason for extending time in the classroom is to learn more. Well for those with difficulty focusing, this is counterproductive.
The importance of spring break is to get a break from school ,and to hang out with your friends and family. One of the reasons why I liked this spring break was that I had time to visit my grandparents in Tampico. Another reason I enjoyed this spring break was that I predisposed to hang out with my friends and we were buffoonery. This past spring break, I had time to go visit my family in other places, For example, my family and I went to Tampico to visit my grandparents and, uncles.
An issue that is hotly debated is if there should be year-round schools or not. Some people think year-round school is beneficial, but there is evidence why there should not be year-round school. The first school was made at 1635 and there has schools that had the full summer break since then (“First Public School in America”). Since schools have been successful with an full summer break till now there is no need to change to year-round schools. There should not be year-round schools because it disrupts events in the summer, cost more money, and messes up schedules.
Year round school may seem arbitrary to the everyday person who has become accustomed to the standard 10 month cycle that most of the United States functions on. This year round style of school has started to become popular throughout the U.S., allowing students a short 2-3 week break about every 2 months to refresh their readiness to learn. This style of schooling is new to the academic world and has little study done on it thus far, but the benefits it has shown in its debut have been astounding. There are many aspects to consider when thinking of year round school including scheduling, academic benefits, and problems that may arise with this change in scheduling. Most U.S. citizens work a standard 40 hour week starting around 8 o’clock
School Year Round Why would anyone want to go to school a year-round? (Rhetorical Question) School should be a year-round because then students will not forget their learning, be more focused on their education and it will be easier to earn their credits in a shorter period of time. Firstly, A school year-round should be offered each year so students will not forget the learning.
