Gathering around the television to watch some TV is a social occurrence that happens every night Written and created by Chris Lilley, Summer Heights High is an Australian television show that depicts the life of a public school epitomized by disobedient student Jonah Takalua, self-absorbed private school exchanged student Ja’mie King and megalomaniac drama teacher Mr. G. Summer Heights High first aired on Australian TV in 2007 and only lasted 8 episodes. It may seem that it was a blunder but in fact in caused a great deal of dispute within Australia with how the Australian characters were portrayed. The

This was significant because Coach disliked Danny in a way and thought he should play soccer. This is true for young Gary Soto. Throughout this narrative, Soto uses many rhetorical devices to convey emotion to the audience. In “A Summers Life”, Soto shifts from a feeling of innocence and youth to one of gut wrenching sin by using powerful imagery, Biblical allusions, and purposeful symbolism to prove that as a child, he succumbed easily to temptation.

Many people think that most American schools are satisfactory. That is far from what is actually happening. The harsh reality is that schools that are unsatisfactory do exist. In Jonathan Kozol’s “Fremont High School”, he points out the flaws of a high school located somewhere in Los Angeles. This helps shine light on differences in the quality of education in various areas of the country.
Another example of the toilet humour used by Kenny is the descriptions of what has happened to the broken toilet doors. This proves my argument as Kenny is making fun of other cultures which is another example of taboo subjects. Australians are known for their careless manner when it comes to making jokes and this particular example shows how far Australians can take it just to make a joke. Overall the jokes made about taboo subjects in this mockumentary creates humour that is distinctly Australian as it is a taboo subject with a clear meaning, resulting in Australians relating to the jokes straight
Though O'Brien's use of juxtaposition and shifts in point of view, he is able to not only show the “crazy powers of war”, but also conveys how war stories aren't true unless they are unbelievable. O’Brien talks about how believable war stories are made up as well as how “a true war story is never moral [and]... if [it]... seems moral, do not believe it” (O’Brien 65). The Vietnam war was a dark and horrific place for a lot of people, and O’Brien helps share those emotions through his “non-moral stories”. In one of the stories O’Brien describes a story where they are in middle of the jungle they heard “chamber music “ and “all these different voices…[then a] cocktail party” (O’Brien 71).

For Aussies to be watching this comedy makes us laugh because it’s funny to think that people actually believe this is how we behave, and carry ourselves. Children who grow up in poverty are faced with a series of issues which impact their education and social atmosphere. In both the school and home setting these children lack the proper resources which they need to succeed academically. Across the country, people have begun creating programs which aim to help children in poverty succeed, despite their socioeconomic status. These programs range from after-school reading, tutoring services, charter schools, and free summer programs. All of these programs provide children with extra academic help which they may not be receiving in school or at home.
Comedy strives to make us laugh and sometimes make our ordinary lives better. However, to outsiders, they believe that comedy should be censored and interpreted in an inoffensive manner, especially the embellished stereotype that is the Australian humour.
